Electro-magnetic Locating

Electromagnetic locating (EML) is a fundamental non-invasive method used to detect metal utilities buried underground. By sending out electromagnetic pulses and measuring their feedback, the horizontal coordinates (latitude, longitude) of subsurface utilities can be deduced. As infrastructure density increases across the world and utilities using new materials and operating principles are put in the earth, electromagnetic field interference impede EML surveys, and non-metal pipes escape EML detection. Still, it is worthwhile to conduct EML scans at a site to get a lay of the subsurface, to guide other methods of underground mapping.
